Many people think of scorpions as aggressive and deadly, but they’re actually quite afraid of people and won’t sting unless threatened. Their stings also aren’t as dangerous as many people think; most people will not experience serious complications. So, if scorpions are afraid of people, why do they end up in our homes? It’s simple; they’re looking for food, water, and shelter.
Even though they aren’t as dangerous as many people think, nobody wants scorpions in their house. Scorpion control should only be handled by professionals. The Schendel Pest Services team are trained to handle scorpion problems safely and efficiently. Read on to learn more.
While professional pest control is always the best way to take care of a scorpion problem, there are a few measures you can take on your own. The most effective of these measures is pest exclusion, or preventing pests from entering the structure in the first place. You can take a few simple steps, such as the following:
Scorpions will hide just about anywhere, from inside your firewood pile to underneath towels left on the floor. You should make every effort to remove all potential hiding places to discourage scorpions from setting up shop.
Only one scorpion in the US, the Arizona bark scorpion, is considered deadly to humans. It is the most venomous scorpion in North America, but it still has a very low fatality rate; in fact, only two fatalities have occurred as a result of this scorpion’s sting since the 1960s. It is most dangerous to children, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals.
If you believe you have been stung by an Arizona bark scorpion, get medical help right away. Fatalities are rare, but still shouldn’t be treated lightly.
Scorpions thrive in desert environments, and are therefore hard to kill. They can go for more than a year without food, as long as they have water; you probably won’t be able to wait them out. Even though they aren’t as dangerous as many people think, and their stings are very rarely deadly, you still don’t want them in your house.

We handle commercial scorpion infestations too! Scorpions are just as welcome in your business as they are in your home. Nobody wants to deal with these creatures while they’re on the clock – or while they’re visiting a local business.

I just wanted to let you know how much we appreciate the courtesy always displayed when Derrick visits our office and showroom. He is polite and friendly and does his job efficiently. Today he even asked if he might assist us in tuning in our staticy radio we have at our front door. It took him less than a minute to see that we had wires miswired and corrected it. It was a small effort but greatly appreciated. He is a wonderful asset to your staff.
